Cartier unveils new designs in its iconic Panthère collection

Cartier has once again captivated the world of luxury jewelry with the release of new designs in its legendary Panthère de Cartier collection. These latest additions showcase a fresh take on the iconic panther motif—introducing a two-headed design in both a new Cartier ring and a new Cartier bracelet that merge heritage with modern edge.

Crafted with Cartier’s signature precision, the plain version of the ring and bangle Cartier bracelet is available in yellow and rose gold, offering timeless sophistication. For those drawn to brilliance, the pavé diamond versions are offered in yellow, rose, and white gold, including a full pavé ring in white gold—a true standout in Cartier jewellery.

The panther’s signature pattern is rendered in onyx, while the animal’s eyes are brought to life with vivid tsavorite garnets.

These new styles reflect Cartier’s ability to continually evolve its most iconic motif while honoring the brand’s storied past.

The Legacy of the Panthère: A Fierce Symbol of Femininity and Power

The Panthère de Cartier first emerged in 1914, when the panther motif debuted on a wristwatch adorned with a pattern of black onyx and diamonds. The inspiration came from the now-famous “Lady with a Panther” illustration by George Barbier, commissioned by Louis Cartier for a jewelry exhibition. This set the stage for the panther as a lasting symbol of power, elegance, and feminine strength.

One woman played a defining role in transforming the motif into a brand icon: Jeanne Toussaint, affectionately known as “La Panthère.” In 1917, Louis Cartier gifted her the first three-dimensional panther—a figurative cigarette case that foreshadowed decades of innovation to come. When Toussaint was appointed Director of Haute Joaillerie in 1933, she ushered in a new era of sculptural panther creations that revolutionized Cartier jewellery.

A key moment came in 1948, when Cartier designed a brooch for the Duchess of Windsor: a gold and enamel panther perched on a 116.74-carat emerald. The piece launched the panther as a high jewelry icon, quickly winning fans among European aristocracy and American elites alike.

From Abstract to Audacious: The Panthère Reimagined

Over the years, the Panthère motif has evolved through different creative expressions—from abstract art deco patterns to sleek, sculptural forms. In the 2000s, Cartier pushed the design further, incorporating rare materials and geometric stylization to give the panther a bold new voice.

Today’s releases continue that evolution. The new Cartier ring and bangle Cartier bracelet exemplify how the house blends tradition with innovation. The dual-headed panther design—unapologetically modern, yet instantly recognizable—makes a statement of strength, sensuality, and style.
